Storm blank Buena Vista to end regular season
INDIANOLA, Iowa – A four-run fifth inning and a combined shutout on the mound helped the Simpson College baseball team close the regular season with a 4-0 Senior Day win over Buena Vista.
Simpson (23-16, 14-10 A-R-C) did all its damage in one inning and let the pitching do the rest, earning the team's fifth American Rivers Conference series win of the season. Trenten Kingrey led the Storm with two RBIs, while four pitchers combined for the team's fourth shutout of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After four scoreless frames, the Storm broke through in the fifth inning with all four runs of the game. Drew Carlson reached on a throwing error to bring home the first run, Trenten Kingrey followed with a two-run single up the middle, and Dalton Ferrin added an RBI fielder's choice to cap the rally.
- Easton Dunwoody set the tone with six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out one. Sam Campin, Drew Carlson, and Dylan Schlee combined to finish off the final three innings, with Schlee recording the final four outs to complete the shutout and earn his fourth save.
