Simpson defeats Central 8-3 in series opener
PELLA, Iowa – Jacob Roberts hit a three-run home run as part of a late offensive surge that lifted Simpson to an 8-3 win over Central in the series opener.
After Central (13-17, 8-8 A-R-C) struck first in the opening inning, the Storm (18-10, 9-4 A-R-C) answered in the second to even the score before taking control in the middle innings. Kasey Carter delivered a two-run single in the fourth to give Simpson a 3-1 advantage, and Tijmen Nagel added an RBI knock in the seventh to extend the lead.
The Storm broke the game open in the eighth inning when Jacob Roberts launched a three-run home run to push the lead to 7-2. Simpson added one more in the ninth on an RBI single from Drew Carlson to cap the scoring.
On the mound, Easton Dunwoody earned the win, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out six. Jake Edenburn closed out the final 2.1 innings to secure his third save of the year.
