INDIANOLA, Iowa – Despite driving in nine runs in the opener, Simpson fell short in both ends of a doubleheader against Saint John's on Sunday afternoon.
Dalton Ferrin and Drew Carlson combined for five hits and five RBIs in the first game to lead the Storm (3-3) bats. Saint John's (4-2) tagged the Storm pitchers with 20 runs on 25 hits highlighted by five-run innings in the third and fourth, and a six spot in the sixth.
In the series finale, Saint John's scored once in the third, twice in the fifth, and an insurance run in the eighth to clinch the series win 4-1. Easton Dunwoody went seven innings, allowing three runs with seven strikeouts while Jack Shaffer pitched the final two frames, giving up one run with three strikeouts.
GAME ONE SUMMARY
- A Nate Cagley RBI single to left put the Storm on the board in the first and a two RBI knock by Carlson added to the lead in the second.
- Saint John's went for five in the third to take the lead before the Storm responded back with RBI doubles from Jacob Roberts, Ferrin, and Carlson in the bottom of the third. Simpson plated three to regain the lead 6-5.
- However, the Johnnies finished off the game with a five-run fourth, and six-run sixth to take the opener 20-9.
- Matthew Florence hit his second home run of the year in the fourth, a two-run blast to right center, while Ferrin drove in his second run of the game in the bottom of the ninth on a single to right.

GAME TWO SUMMARY
- Saint John's struck first, scoring a lone run in the third on a wild pitch and later added two runs to the lead in the fifth on RBI singles to left.
- Kasey Carter put the Storm on the board, scoring Simpson's lone run of the game with a solo shot to left, his first of the season.
- The Johnnies added one more insurance run in the eighth with four-straight two out singles and sealed the series winner 4-1.
- Dunwoody got the start for the Storm, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs while walking two and striking out seven.
