McAlexander walk-off, Shaffer complete game power sweep of Spartans
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Tyson McAlexander delivered a walk-off double in the 12th inning of game one, Jack Shaffer threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap, and the Simpson College baseball team swept Dubuque 3-2 and 4-1 on Saturday at McBride Field.
In a tightly contested opener, Kasey Carter gave the Storm (13-8, 4-2 A-R-C) new life with a game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth before Trenten Kingrey scored the winning run on McAlexander's double to right center in the 12th. Shaffer took the mound in game two and gave up just two hits while striking out 10 as the Storm broke it open offensively with a three-run sixth.
With the two wins, Simpson tallies its second consecutive series win over Dubuque (7-14, 4-5 A-R-C).
GAME ONE SUMMARY
- After five and a half scoreless innings, Dalton Ferrin put the Storm on the board in the sixth with an RBI double with two outs.
- Dubuque responded late, tying the game with a bunt single in the eighth before taking a 2-1 lead in the ninth.
- In the home half, Sam Campin drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Kasey Carter forced extra innings with a base knock to right center.

- Thomas allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings while striking out eight. Edenburn added five strikeouts over three innings, and Dylan Schlee earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

- With game one of the doubleheader going into extras, the nightcap was shortened to seven innings by conference rule. Shaffer threw his second-straight complete game at McBride Field, limiting Dubuque to just two hits while striking out a career-high 10.
- Simpson took an early lead in the first and broke open a 1-1 game in the sixth inning with three runs. The Storm capitalized on a leadoff walk and Kasey Carter and Jacob Roberts followed with RBIs to extend the lead to 4-1.
