Storm roll past Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Simpson College baseball team powered its way to a doubleheader sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday, using a 13-6 win in game one to clinch the series before taking the nightcap, 14-7.

The Storm (15-9, 6-3 A-R-C) combined for 27 runs across the two games, scoring in 10 of 18 innings while capitalizing on 21 hits and drawing 18 walks on the day. Simpson has won five of its last six games.

GAME ONE RECAP

  • The Storm struck for four runs in the opening frame, highlighted by a two-run home run from Bryson Gibson and RBI contributions from Drew Carlson and Nate Cagley.
  • Simpson continued to build its lead with runs in the third and fourth, including a two-RBI double from Trenten Kingrey to make it 7-0.
    Nebraska Wesleyan (7-18, 2-7 A-R-C) answered with a pair of runs in the fourth, but Simpson responded again in the fifth with two more runs to extend the lead to 9-2.
  • The Prairie Wolves continued to chip away and pulled within 10-6 after a three-run home run in the eighth.
  • Simpson added insurance in both the seventh and ninth innings, including a sacrifice fly from Carlson and a two-RBI double from Gibson to seal the 13-6 victory.

  • Simpson broke the game open with a trio of big innings, scoring five runs in the third, four in the fourth, and four more in the fifth to build a 13-1 lead.
  • Tyler Deal highlighted the third inning with a two-run single while Drew Carlson, Sam Campin, and Kasey Carter added RBIs.
  • In the fourth, Simpson took advantage of an error and added two more hits, including RBI singles from Dalton Ferrin and Campin.
  • Carson, Ferrin, Campin, and Deal all added more RBIs in the fifth, and Campin capped his perfect game with a fourth RBI in the eighth.
  • Carlson earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and no earned runs while striking out seven over five innings.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan rallied for six runs in the sixth to cut into the deficit, but Dylan Schlee shut the door with three scoreless innings of relief to secure the sweep and his third save of the year.
