Wartburg pulls away from Storm in game three
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Drew Carlson surpassed 100 career hits and supplied three RBIs, but the Simpson College baseball team was unable to slow down Wartburg's offense in a 13-5 series finale loss.
Wartburg (14-11, 5-8 A-R-C) struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another in the second before breaking the game open with a four-run third to build a 7-0 lead.
Simpson (17-10, 8-4 A-R-C) answered in the bottom half of the third, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Carlson, his 100th career hit. Carlson added another RBI single in the fifth to pull Simpson within 7-3.
The Knights extended their lead in the sixth with four runs, fueled by a pair of home runs, and added two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Simpson added a run in the eighth on an RBI walk by Dalton Ferrin and another in the ninth on an RBI double from Trenten Kingrey.
