Storm claim 3-1 win in conference home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team picked up a 3-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University in its American Rivers Conference home opener.

The Storm (11-8, 2-2 A-R-C) struck early with two runs in the second inning. Nate Cagley delivered an RBI single to bring home Trenten Kingrey before Sam Campin added another run on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

Nebraska Wesleyan (5-15, 0-4 A-R-C) answered with a sacrifice fly in the third, but Simpson responded in the fourth when Dalton Ferrin launched a solo home run to extend the lead to 3-1. The Prairie Wolves did not get a runner past first base from that point forward.

Easton Dunwoody earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out seven over seven innings. Jake Edenburn followed with a scoreless eighth, striking out three, before Dylan Schlee closed out the game in the ninth to secure the save.

With the save, Schlee broke the program record with his 11th career save.
