Storm shower Cornell with 10 goals

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's soccer team put on a dominant performance at home on Tuesday night, defeating Cornell 10-0 behind goals from eight different players.

Ally Hoffa opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season less than seven minutes into the game. Abby Bell added a first-half penalty following strikes from Mya Jansen and Brissa Valadez to give Simpson (3-1-1) a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Taylor Smith and Bell deliver the game's quickest scores, netting goals within a minute of each other to stretch the lead to 6-0. Ava Croft added another penalty kick for the Storm a few minutes later, and Smith found the back of the net in the 69th minute for her second of the night. Georgia Paulson and Lexi Gabrielson rounded out the scoring.

Bell finished with five points on the night, contributing two goals and an assist, while teammates Anna Eide, Avery Plathe, Savannah Schneider, Valadez, Caroline White, and Bella Sims also assisted in the scoring. In total, 13 players were involved in goals, and 27 saw action.

Amanda Pascale started in net and made one save before Emerson Fleming entered in the 71st minute, helping Simpson record its third shutout of the season.

NOTES

  • Simpson's 10-goal output is the program's largest since an 11-goal effort against Iowa Wesleyan on Sept. 14, 2016.
  • The Storm improve to 13-8 all-time against the Rams.
  • Simpson outshot the Rams 44-3, taking 22 attempts in each half.
