Storm create opportunities but settle for scoreless draw

DECATUR, Ill. – The Simpson women's soccer team outshot Millikin 16-4 but was unable to find the finishing touch, settling for a scoreless draw in their second game of the season.

Meredith Downs posted her first shutout of the season, making three saves in goal for the Storm (1-0-1). On the other end, Ally Hoffa led the Simpson attack with six shots, while Abby Bell added three attempts, including one on target. Mya Jansen and Avery Plathe each recorded a pair of shots on frame.

Ten of Simpson's 16 shots came in the second half, but the Storm couldn't find the breakthrough. Simpson earned five corner kicks on the night while limiting Millikin (1-0-1) to just one.

NOTES

  • This was the seventh meeting all-time between Simpson and Millikin, and first since 2012. The series now stands at 4-2-1 in favor of the Storm.
  • Meredith Downs climbed into the program's top five with her ninth career shutout.
