INDIANOLA, Iowa – Ally Hoffa sparked a Storm comeback in the opening round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament, tying the match in the second half before burying the golden goal in overtime to send the Simpson College women's soccer team to the semifinals.
Luther (7-9-2, 3-4-1 A-R-C) struck first in the 22nd minute and carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but the Storm (11-5-2, 6-2-0 A-R-C) found their rhythm in the second half. Hoffa netted the equalizer in the 66th minute off a setup from Brissa Valadez, sending the match into extra time.
In the 97th minute, the duo connected again as Hoffa buried the golden goal to secure the win and send the Storm into the A-R-C semifinals.
With the victory, Simpson advances to face No. 2 seed Loras on Wednesday.
NOTES
- Simpson is now 19-18-4 all-time in the conference playoffs. Wednesday will be Simpson's fifth straight trip to the semifinals.
- Ally Hoffa now has 13 goals and six gamewinners this season. She's the first player other than Cassie Nash to score double-digit goals since Katherine Bird and Nicole Dillenburg each had 10 in 2010.
