BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Simpson College women's soccer team opened its season on the right foot, earning a 2-1 road win at Illinois Wesleyan behind a first-half spark from Ally Hoffa.
Hoffa struck twice in a 41-second span midway through the first half, giving the Storm (1-0) all the offense they needed. The senior forward fired off 10 shots in the match, with her first goal coming off a feed from Abby Bell on a set piece. Bell was active throughout the night as well, finishing with five shots, two on frame.
Illinois Wesleyan (0-1) pulled within one in the 59th minute, but the Storm defense held firm as Hoffa, Bell and Taylor Smith continued to test the keeper down the stretch.
