Simpson finishes runner-up at NWCA National Duals
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – No. 16 Simpson closed out its weekend at the NWCA Division III National Duals with a runner-up finish, advancing to the championship match with a semifinal win over Western New England before falling to top-seeded Wartburg.
In the semifinals, the Storm (8-5) earned a 28-17 victory over the Golden Bears, winning six of the 10 bouts. Simpson picked up key points throughout the lineup, including a 13-2 tech fall from Abigail Fuglsang at 110, a pin by Noa Arnold at 145, and an 11-3 decision from No. 6 Keeley Kehrli at 160. Savannah Sistad closed the victory with a first-period fall at 207.
Simpson's run concluded in the championship with a 31-13 loss to No. 13 Wartburg. The Storm found success late in the dual, as Kehrli notched a first-period fall over No. 10 May Prado at 160 and Autumn Calvert followed with a pin at 180.
UP NEXT
The Storm heads to the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational on Jan. 17, their final tournament before competing for a conference title on Jan. 24.
