Fuglsang debuts with 110 title as Storm grab nine placewinners
STORM LAKE, Iowa – Abigail Fuglsang won the 110 bracket, Sarah Zimmerman and Paige Gershmel turned in top-3 performances, and the Simpson College women's wrestling team tallied nine total placewinners at the Buena Vista Open on Saturday.
Fuglsang made her collegiate debut in impressive fashion, going 4-0 to capture the 110 bracket. She scored a pair of 10-0 technical falls, earned a 14-9 win over Kailey Salazar (Umpqua CC), and secured the title with a fall over teammate Zimmerman in 3:53.
Zimmerman reached the finals after posting two pins and a forfeit, taking home runner-up honors.
Gershmel powered through the 138 bracket with a decision, a technical fall, and a pin before closing her day with an 11-0 win over Southeastern CC's Evelyn Phillips in the third place bout.
Lily McMahon (131) and Autumn Calvert (180) claimed fourth place, Jenna Joseph (180) and Savannah Sistad (207) placed fifth, and Caterina Barriga (117) and Sophia Miller (110) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
