Storm roll past three opponents at Gator Boots Duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 16-ranked Simpson College women's wrestling team turned in a strong showing at the Gator Boot Duals, finishing the weekend with three dual victories and pushing No. 8 Emmanuel (Ga.) to the final bout in a 29-25 top-20 battle.

Simpson (4-4) opened the event with a hard-fought battle against Emmanuel (4-0), coming up just short. No. 5 Emaline Hicks and Sarah Zimmerman set the tone early with back-to-back technical falls at 103 and 110 pounds, giving the Storm an early advantage. Annelise Obermark had a key fall at 145 pounds, and No. 6 Keeley Kehrli followed with a pin at 160 to pull Simpson even at 23-23. Emmanuel edged out the final two bouts to escape the win.

The Storm rebounded emphatically with a 40-6 victory over Randolph (6-7), recording wins in nine of the 10 bouts. Layla Phillips, Kehrli, Jenna Joseph, and Savannah Sistad all earned pins to power the dominant performance.

Simpson followed with a 26-16 win over Lock Haven (8-5), once again jumping out to an early lead behind technical falls from Hicks and Zimmerman. Ashley Cannon, Paige Gershmel, Obermark, and Kehrli added bonus-point victories as the Storm secured their third dual win of the weekend.

The Storm closed the event with a 38-9 victory over Huntingdon (1-1), winning eight of 10 matches. Simpson recorded five falls and three technical falls in the dual, highlighted by quick pins from Layla Phillips, Cannon, and Kehrli.

Simpson's varsity reserve team competed in three duals as well, defeating Loras 44-0, Wis.-Oshkosh 28-26, and Mount Union 35-13.
