Simpson advances to regional semifinal with 4-0 win over Greenville
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Behind a lights-out pitching performance from Emma LaFave and a clutch two-RBI hit by Brynn Ortlund, Simpson softball shut out Greenville 4-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Regional.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Katie Shaner led off the second inning with a double to right center and later advanced to third while Caelynn Obleton walked and stole second to set up Ortlund.
- With two outs, Ortlund battled through an eight-pitch at-bat, winning the fight with a single through the right side, scoring two and putting Simpson up early.
- In the third, Ashlyn Steen reached on a hit-by-pitch before scoring on a triple from Megan Heidelbauer in the gap to extend Simpson's lead.
- Shaner drove in Heidelbauer with a one-out sac-bunt to give Simpson the eventual 4-0 winning score.
- Emma LaFave navigated her way through the Greenville lineup after the Panthers collected eight hits on the day. LaFave stranded nine runners, fueled by eight strikeouts, tying her season-high.
