Heidelbauer and Cronin named A-R-C Player and Pitcher of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After winning the A-R-C Tournament Championship for the first time in program history, standouts Megan Heidelbauer and Marina Cronin were named the American Rivers Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
Cronin got the nod in the circle for the championship game, pitching the Storm to the title after throwing a complete game. The righty allowed only one run on two hits with just one walk to five strikeouts. Cronin earned the A-R-C Pitcher of the Week honor for a third time this season, winning twice back in March.
Heidelbauer delivered clutch hits all tournament long, going 4-for-7 over the two games with five RBIs, and one triple. In the championship, Heidelbauer broke open the game with a bases-loaded triple in the second to put Simpson up 4-0. She later brought home her fourth RBI of the championship on a sixth inning sac-fly, scoring Caelynn Obleton. The award marks the first of the season for Heidelbauer and second of her career.
Simpson (34-5) earned the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament and was selected to host an NCAA Regional from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16. Simpson, as the one seed, will host four-seed Greenville in the opener on Thursday at 11 a.m. with two-seed Saint Benedict facing off against three-seed Central.
