Third quarter drought costs Storm in Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Simpson College women's basketball team made a late push but couldn't overcome a cold third quarter, falling 72-61 to Wis.-Platteville on Saturday evening at the Mark Heidorf Memorial Classic.

The Pioneers (5-1) edged the Storm 17-15 in the opening quarter and closed the second on an 8-0 run to take a 32-26 lead into halftime. Simpson (2-2) went more than eight minutes without a field goal in the third, a stretch that allowed the hosts to push their lead to 18 on two different occasions.

The Storm battled back in the fourth, trimming the deficit to 66-57 with 2:47 remaining, but the rally stopped there as Wis.-Platteville held on to hand Simpson its second loss of the season.
