DUBUQUE, Iowa - Defenses have struggled all season long to stop Mitchell Dickson, and Dubuque proved no different as Dickson scored his eighth goal of the year to lift Simpson to 1-0 win on Tuesday night.
Both sides jockeyed for control in the first half, grinding out to a 0-0 draw at halftime. Simpson fired off six shots in the opening frame, with two shots landing on target. Allan Martinez collected both shots on goal, while Tate Downs added two more shots. Nate Hersom and the Storm backline limited five attempts, with Hersom earning two saves.
With the Storm defense holding strong to start the second half, one goal was all Simpson needed to claim the road victory. The opportunity came in the 69th minute when Dickson rifled home a goal to the back left of the net to break the scoreless draw. The goal marked the eighth of the season for Dickson, moving him up to tied for second in the conference in goals scored.
Hersom and the Storm defense closed out the clean sheet, stopping all 10 shots faced, making the two saves in the first half. Seven of the 11 starters for the Storm played a full 90 minutes, including the entire backline.
