Thirty wrestlers open season, six win titles

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's wrestling team opened its 2024 season by hosting the Luther Hill Invitational. Thirty wrestlers competed amongst a field of nearly 400 athletes, with six Storm wrestlers winning their brackets.

Layla Phillips (110), Jalynn Goodale (117), Ashley Cannon (124), Paige Gershmel (138), Breanna Weir (160) and Kassidee Savaria (180) all went undefeated to claim individual championships in the freshman/sophomore division of the meet. Phillips and Cannon both posted four wins, while the others went a perfect 5-0.

Eleven other wrestlers earned placements in their brackets, including three runner-up finishes by Ella Weber (117), Kendra Bliss (131) and Annelise Obermak (145).

Emma Wissman led the Storm with four pins on the day, while Phillips, Weir, Lily McMahon and Savaria all registered three.
