Gruber, Anderson meet in consolation match

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Allison Anderson captured third place in Flight C Singles at the 2009 IIAC Women's Individual Conference Tournament, knocking off teammate Lynae Gruber Saturday.

Anderson and Gruber were the two Simpson players to advance out of the first day of competition, as each advanced to the quarterfinals. The Simpson duo lost to a pair from Wartburg, as Anderson lost to Clair Evans (6-1, 7-5) and Gruber fell to Brita Jensen (3-6, 6-1, 1-0), setting up the all-Simpson third-place match.

Anderson took third-place honors in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

It is the second year in a row two Simpson players have met in either the finals or third-place match in Flight C Singles, as Gwen Kingsbury defeated Gruber in the finals last season.

The Storm finished the fall season with a record of 3-12 (3-6 IIAC).
