Simpson splits against Graceland and BVU

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Playing two re-matches from the beginning of the season, the same results yielded. Simpson picked up a conference win against Buena Vista after falling to Graceland earlier in the week.

A Look Ahead

Simpson (3-8, 3-4 IIAC) welcomes Luther (10-2, 5-1 IIAC) and Augustana (5-8) to the Buxton Memorial Tennis Courts for a triangular on Saturday. Simpson begins the day with conference play against Luther at 9 a.m. and takes on Augustana at noon.

A Look Back

Graceland 8, Simpson 1 – Wednesday, Sept. 23

Doubles partners Lindsay Nash (Fr., Keokuk, IA) and Allison Anderson (So., Eldridge, IA) picked up the Storm's only win, 8-4, against the Yellowjackets.

The Storm couldn't break into the winner's column in singles play. Lynae Gruber (So., Shenandoah, IA) put up a fight against Carla Aguilera in No.4 singles, winning the first set, but lost the final two sets as Aguilera won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Simpson 6, Buena Vista 3 – Saturday, Sept. 26

Simpson defeated Buena Vista for the second time this year at Buxton Memorial Courts in Indianola. In singles competition, the Storm won 5-of-6 matches, losing only the No. 1 match. Tiffany Bost (Fr., Spokane, WA) dropped a 3-set match to Emily Gutschenritter, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Mikayla Struebing (Fr., Indianola, IA) won the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-1, defeating Ali Kuhs. In the No. 3 match, Anderson improved to 5-4 on the year after a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hope Zefran. Gruber took the No. 4 singles match against Sarah Larson, 6-2, 6-3.

Nash improved to 5-2 in singles conference play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Melanie Pham in the No. 5 match. Corrie McDonald (Fr., Glendale, AZ) defeated Yami Chavez 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

In doubles, Simpson won the No. 2 match. The team of Anderson and Nash prevailed 8-2 over Zefran and Larson for their second straight win. No. 1 doubles partners Bost and Gruber lost a close match, 9-7 to Gutschenritter and Megan Anderson.

Simpson improved to 3-4 in the conference after the win over Buena Vista.
