Simpson sweeps Macalester, falls in tight battle with Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Simpson College women's volleyball team picked up its fourth sweep of the season against Macalester before coming up just short in a hard-fought 3-1 battle with Bethany Lutheran that featured three sets decided 26-24.

Morgan DenBeste stuffed the stat sheet in the win over Macalester (1-8), finishing with 14 kills, 11 assists, four blocks, two aces, and two digs. Jada Schmidt (8), Peyton Mitchell (6), and Emily Williams (6) added balance at the net as Simpson (8-2) cruised to 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 victories.

The Storm carried momentum into their matchup with Bethany Lutheran (4-6), erasing a 24-21 deficit to claim the opening set 26-24. The Vikings answered with a 26-24 win of their own and pulled ahead with a 25-17 victory in the third. Simpson nearly forced a decisive fifth, tying the fourth set at 24-all behind a kill from Emmy Seiler and an ace from Maddie Dunham, but Bethany Lutheran closed it out on back-to-back kills for the match.
