Rain-soaked battle ends in Storm setback

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Despite taking a late lead, the Simpson College baseball team fell 6-3 to Dubuque in Friday night's American Rivers Conference matchup.

The Storm (15-21, 9-13 A-R-C) grabbed a 3-1 advantage in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from Bryson Gibson and a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Dalton Ferrin that brought in another run. However, the Spartans (19-18, 10-12 A-R-C) responded with three runs in the seventh and tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth to seal the win.

Gibson also drove in Simpson's first run of the day, tying things up at 1-1 in the second with a single to right center.

Dubuque starter Charlie Jaeger struck out 13 in 8.0 innings for the win, while Jake Cekander did damage on both sides, closing out the game with a save in the ninth and finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run.

Due to ongoing rain, the second game of Friday's doubleheader was rescheduled for Saturday.
