Storm split high-scoring games, win series over Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa – In a doubleheader that saw 66 total runs scored, the Simpson College baseball team came away with a split, winning the nightcap 22-15 to claim the series win over Loras.

The Duhawks (16-14, 6-9 A-R-C) churned out 17 hits to win the opener 20-9, but Simpson (10-15, 4-7) bounced back to take game two 22-15. The Storm compiled 21 hits in that victory, including five home runs and a pair of doubles.

GAME ONE SUMMARY

  • Simpson scored once in the first and second but Loras led 12-2 at the end of three innings.
  • The Storm cut the deficit in half with a five-run fourth inning. Trenten Kingrey and Will Carlock both drove in multiple runs.
  • The Duhawks went back in front by double-digits with seven runs in the sixth inning.
  • Simpson loaded the bags in the seventh and got one run back thanks to a walk, but fell victim to the run-rule decision.

  • Nineteen of the game's 37 runs were scored across the first two innings as Simpson plated five in the first and seven in the second to lead 12-7.
  • After not scoring in the third, Simpson brought at least one run home in every single inning, answering all of Loras' comeback attempts.
  • Jacob Roberts, who hit a three-run homer in the second, added a two-run bomb in the fourth as well as a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Kasey Carter, Nate Cagley, and Ian Baldwin also went deep as Simpson put up its highest single-game run total since 2006.
