Baseball dominates Dutch behind Dunwoody's gem, explosive offense

PELLA, Iowa – Scoring in all but one inning and backed by a complete-game gem from Easton Dunwoody, the Simpson College baseball team rolled past Central 15-2 to open the series with a commanding run-rule victory.

Nate Cagley was 4-for-5 from the plate and Simpson's top three in the batting order combined for six hits and nine RBIs, each launching multi-run home runs. Dunwoody went the distance on the mound, giving up just four hits and one walk in his seven innings of work. Simpson (14-19, 8-11 A-R-C) did not allow Central (15-18, 6-13 A-R-C) a base runner after the third inning.

SCORING BREAKDOWN

  • Jacob Roberts drew a walk to open the game, and Drew Carlson gave Simpson an immediate 2-0 lead with his fifth home run of the year.
  • Carlson drove home another run in the second with a single up the middle. Nate Cagley followed with a two-run hit to center shortly after.
  • The Storm strung together four straight singles to start the third inning, with Bryson Gibson and Dalton Ferrin tallying RBIs with theirs.
  • Will Carlock added an RBI in the fourth, and Trenten Kingrey blew the game wide open with a three-run shot in the fifth.
  • After the Storm's lone scoreless inning in the sixth, they put the game away for good in the seventh. Roberts launched a three-run homer, and Carlson added the final tally on a fielder's choice.
  • Central's only runs came in the first two innings off four hits. The Dutch were completely shut down the rest of the way, thanks to Easton Dunwoody's dominance and clean defense.
