Storm finish fifth at A-R-C Championships, Tennis earns all-conference medal

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Storm took to Glen Oaks Country Club this week in West Des Moines to compete in the A-R-C Championships in a three day event. Over the course of the weekend, the Storm put on many impressive performances, earning some all-conference honors along the way.

After three rounds of 18, Simpson finished in fifth place with a final score of 934, defeating Buena Vista, Wartburg, Loras, and Coe. The Storm came just four strokes short of third place, falling behind Luther and Central. Fifth place is the highest placement for the Storm since 2017.

At the conclusion of Tuesday's final round, freshman Jackson Tennis finished in 10th place, earning him an all-conference medalist spot. Tennis becomes the first all-conference medalist for the Storm since 2017. Junior Blake Perrin came in right behind Tennis, finishing in 11th place with a score of 232. Perrin garnered honorable mention honors from the conference for his achievements over the course of the championships.

The Storm graduate three seniors, Jackson Mears, Lane Sundberg, and Max Trembly, and will return to competition in the fall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • During the first round of 18, Jackson Tennis posted the lowest score of the day for the Storm, shooting a 71 and scoring two birdies on the day.
  • Blake Perrin came in close behind on day one, shooting a 73, followed by Jack Wahman's 76 stroke performance. The low scores of the day put the Storm in third after day one.
  • Day two came with high winds, resulting in higher scores across the board. Bradley Kofoed shot the lowest score of the day with a 78, followed by Blake Perrin's 81.
  • The Storm recorded just three birdies on day two as a team, falling to fourth place.
  • Day three came with more favorable conditions, allowing Jack Wahman to lead the Storm with a 75 stroke performance.
  • Both Jackson Tennis and Blake Perrin shot scores of 78, putting the Storm in fifth place to finish the meet.
  • Jackson Tennis and Blake Perrin both finished in the top-15 at the conclusion of the meet, earning them all-conference honors.
