Simpson men's basketball's season comes to a close at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A second half comeback lifted Coe past the Storm, ending Simpson's hopes of reaching the A-R-C Tournament on Saturday night.

Needing a win to reach the A-R-C Tournament, Simpson built out an early first half lead over Coe, leading by as many as 15. However, Coe shot nearly 55 percent from the field in the second half to fuel the comeback. Simpson was unable to find its footing with nine made baskets in the second half after shooting nearly 55 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

Calix Cahill led the way with 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting including four steals, two rebounds, and two assists. Cam Henderson was the only other Storm to reach double-digits in the scoring column, finishing with 12 points. Brogan Fuller added nine points and five rebounds off the bench in 18 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Simpson quickly established the tone of the game, jumping out to a 13-4 lead in the first six minutes of action.
• The Storm continued to hold around a double-digit lead over Coe throughout the first half as a Cahill layup at the end sent Simpson to the locker room with a 43-31 lead.
• The lead grew a game-high 15 points out of the break after a Henderson layup made it a 50-35 ballgame with 16:55 left.
• Coe clawed back into the game using a 20-3 run spanning over six minutes to not only erase a 15-point deficit but give the Kohawks the lead.
• Simpson regained the lead four different times down the stretch but was never able to pull away.
• Coe connected on a clutch 3-pointer with 1:15 left and hit their final four free throws to ice the game.
