Second half comeback comes up short for Storm at Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - An early deficit proved to be too much for the Storm to overcome, falling to Saint John's 85-66 on Saturday evening.

Three different Storm players reached double-digits in scoring with five players scoring eight or more points on the night. Despite Simpson cutting Saint John's lead in half in the second half, the Storm were unable to complete the comeback.

Simpson's 3-point shooting found its flow in the second half after going 3-for-9 in the opening 20, the Storm connected on 6-for-11 in the second half. Levi Gurwell, Cam Henderson, and Bo Huston all reached 12 points, with Huston adding eight rebounds, and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A couple quick baskets from Marcus Haupert, Cam Henderson and Levi Gurwell gave Simpson its lone lead of the game at 6-5 to start.
  • Saint John's responded by going on a 9-0 run to break open a lead, one SJU never relinquished.
  • Simpson managed to cut the lead down to just five in the first half but a strong finish by SJU made it a 43-29 score at halftime.
  • For a majority of the second half, Simpson outpaced Saint John's, cutting a 22-point deficit to 10. With the Storm looming for a second half comeback, Saint John's ended the game outscoring Simpson 12-3 in the final three minutes to clinch the win.
