Storm place 16th at Dan Huston Invitational

WAVERLY - Sophomore Mitchell Davis placed 52nd, leading Simpson to a 16th place finish of 24 teams at the Dan Huston Invitational on Saturday.

The Storm got a chance to run on the same course which will host the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 13 and the national meet a week later. UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 16 in the nation, won the meet with 73 points. Colorado College placed second, followed by Wabash and No. 13 Augustana. Iowa Conference foes Cornell, Loras and Wartburg finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. 

Davis (Algona, Iowa) finished as the top Simpson runner for the first time this season, completing the 8km course in 27:23.

Ryan Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa) placed 60th (27:32), John Warnke (Dubuque, Iowa) took 87th (28:06) and Jake Sutton (West Des Moines, Iowa) placed 107th (28:35). Matt Stone (Boone, Iowa) placed 119th (28:48), Mitch Hill (Thor, Iowa) took 121st (28:50) and Ben Duea (Waukee, Iowa) rounded out the varsity finishers in 155th (29:33). 

Next week, Simpson travels to West Salem, Wis. for the Drews/Neubauer Invitational, hosted by UW-LaCrosse.
