Storm run to seventh at IIAC Championship
DECORAH, Iowa - Led by a 25th-place showing by Jade Osborne, the Simpson women's cross country team took seventh at the Iowa Conference Championship on Saturday.
Osborne led the Storm for the fifth time in as many meets this season. She completed the 6-kilometer course in 24:05.1.
Wartburg won the meet with 28 points, followed by Luther in second with 45. Loras took third (78), Cornell fourth (101), Central fifth (149) and Coe sixth (175). Simpson scored 185 points in seventh while Dubuque (239) and Buena Vista (277) rounded out the field.
Luther's Emma Spoon won the individual championship for the second year in a row, completing the course in 22:34.2. She held off Emily Eimers of Wartburg (22:36.8).
"Most of our girls improved from last year's placings and ran season bests," first-year head coach Heath Moenck said. "Our seniors stepped up today and really ended on a positive note."
Annie Hills was the Storm's second finisher, placing 48th (24:49.1). Courtney Licht took 56th (25:02.8), Signe Mayland 62nd (25:14.4) and Maddy McAreavy 66th (25:29.9). Lindsey Borgamainerio (67th, 25:33.2) and Erin Guzman (73rd, 25:57.4) rounded out Simpson's top seven.
Simpson will compete in the NCAA Central Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Waverly.
