Storm women fall to Dubuque in third conference match

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson women fell to Dubuque in their third conference match of the season this afternoon. Their loss brings them to 0-3 in conference play this season and 6-11 overall.

Emily Williams led the team in kills this afternoon with seven, followed closely by Jada Schmidt's six. Audrey Behren and Lauren Dockendorff led the team in assists, chipping in eight assists each. Ella Meyer led the team with an impressive 20 digs in a three-set match (6.67 digs/set).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Simpson started set one down 2-0 to Dubuque, but an ace from Jada Schmidt and a kill by Peyton Mitchell brought the team ahead. Jada Schmidt scored two more aces in a row during the Storm's 5-0 run. A mid-set run by Dubuque put the set in a tie. Simpson fell to a 5-0 run at the end of the set, falling in set one 25-17.
  • The second set opening was marked by an ace from Peyton Mitchell and a kill by Jada Schmidt. An ace by Audrey Behrens brought the score to a tie at 5-5. A couple of runs by Dubuque put Simpson behind at 15-11. Emily Williams contributed two kills late in the second set, but the Storm fell 25-18.
  • The Storm opened set three with a pair of kills by Peyton Mitchell. Dubuque went on a short run early in the set, but it was cut short by an ace from Lauren Dockendorff. A late run by Dubuque ended the set with Simpson falling 25-13.
