Storm fall to Loras in second conference match
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson women's volleyball team fell to Loras tonight in their second conference match of the season. The team fell to Loras in four sets despite another double-double performance from Morgan DenBeste.
Courtney Paxton and Jada Schmidt led the team in kills against Loras, both recording nine. Morgan DenBeste led the team in assists with 20, followed closely by Audrey Behrens' 17 assists. Ella Meyer's impressive 31 dig performance led the team in the category.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Simpson came out quick in the first set, starting with an early 3-0 lead with kills by Peyton Mitchell and Emily Williams. The Storm held the lead until Loras went on two mid-set 4-0 runs. Simpson fell in set one 25-22.
- Peyton Mitchell opened set two for the Storm with a kill. The Storm went on a 5-0 run early in the second set, marked by kills from Emmy Seiler and Emily Williams. Simpson held the lead for the remainder of the second set and they won 25-20.
- Set three was a close match until Simpson pulled ahead early with an 8-4 lead. A mid-set 4-0 run by Loras brought the score closer, but the Storm remained on top. A kill by Lauren Roman brought the team back to a lead at 15-14. Loras pulled ahead at the end and defeated the Storm 25-23 in a close third.
- Morgan DenBeste scored an ace to open up set four for the Storm. Simpson held a dominant lead early in the set, leading the Duhawks 6-1. The score got back to a tie with a Loras 4-0 run. The Storm fell in set four 25-19.
