Noland, Philpott repeat as A-R-C Players of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – For the second consecutive week, Noah Noland and Tanner Philpott of the Simpson College football team have been recognized as American Rivers Conference Players of the Week.
Noland earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after another dominant all-around performance, while Philpott was named Special Teams Player of the Week following his continued excellence in the punting game. Both were instrumental in Simpson's 28-27 road victory over Loras on Saturday.
Noland turned in a monster defensive performance with 17 tackles (14 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and a quarterback hurry. He also came up clutch on special teams, blocking two PATs in the fourth quarter, including the potential game-tying kick with 1:11 left to seal the Storm's win and preserve their perfect road record. He became the first player in the A-R-C to reach 100 tackles this season and ranks fourth in Division III with 12.5 tackles per game.
Philpott had another standout day in the kicking game, punting nine times for a career-high 398 yards and averaging 44.2 yards per punt. He hit three punts over 50 yards, with a long of 55, and pinned four inside the 20-yard line to keep the Duhawks' offense backed up for much of the afternoon. Philpott has now set a career high in punting yardage for the second straight week, with his 398 yards marking the most by a Simpson punter since 2016. Philpott ranks fifth in Division III with 43.9 punting yards per game.
Noland and Philpott's weekly honor are the seventh and eighth the Storm have earned this season, setting a new program record for honors in a season.
The Storm (5-3, 4-2 A-R-C) return home to host No. 19 Central for Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
