Noland, Philpott recognized by A-R-C for impact in homecoming victory
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Freshman linebacker Noah Noland and sophomore punter Tanner Philpott have earned American Rivers Conference weekly honors after standout performances in Saturday's 27-7 win over Dubuque.
Noland was recognized as both the league's Defensive Player of the Week and Male Athlete of the Week, while Philpott was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week. The honors mark the first weekly awards of their careers.
Noland anchored a dominant effort by the Storm defense, which limited the Spartans to just one score and a 1-for-5 mark in red zone chances. The Carlisle, Iowa native matched his career high with 18 total tackles, including a season-high 12 solo stops. The freshman also recorded two solo sacks for a loss of nine yards.
Philpott was a key factor in the field position battle, punting eight times for a career-high 333 yards. He landed five punts inside the 20-yard line, including one at the 1-yard line and another at the 2. The Waukee, Iowa product averaged 41.6 yards per punt with a long of 45, consistently pinning Dubuque deep in its own territory.
The Storm (4-3, 3-2 A-R-C) look to push their win streak to three when they face Loras (2-5, 2-3 A-R-C) on the road this Saturday.
