Pick-six performance lands Hangartner on D3football.com Team of the Week
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Leading a Storm defense that scored three times and posted its first shutout since 2019, senior CJ Hangartner has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Hangartner delivered his second defensive touchdown of the season with a 74-yard interception return in the second quarter against Buena Vista, Simpson's longest pick-six since Ryan Lehr went 98 yards in 2017. The return, which ranks as the fourth-longest in program history, helped spark a defense that produced three touchdowns on the day.
In addition to the touchdown, Hangartner tallied six solo tackles, including one for loss, and added a pass breakup.
As a team, Simpson leads the nation with four defensive touchdowns and ranks third in the country in turnovers gained with 13 takeaways. The Storm have recovered eight fumbles (#1 in DIII) and generated five interceptions.
This marks Hangartner's first career appearance on the D3football.com Team of the Week, coming just one day after he collected his fourth career American Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor. This is the 29th time in program history that a Simpson player has been named to the national team and the first since teammate Noah Cracraft last October.
