Storm split with Beloit and Grinnell
GRINNELL- The Simpson women's tennis team split a pair of matches with Beloit and Grinnell on Sunday, defeating Beloit 6-3 and falling to Grinnell 9-0.
Against the Buccaneers, the Storm (4-4, 3-3 IIAC) split the singles competition but swept doubles for the team's third-straight win. Jill Berner (Albia, Iowa) picked up her third win of the season at No. 1 doubles, defeating Alexandra Hinck in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
At the fourth spot, Allison Anderson (Eldridge, Iowa) earned her team-leading fourth win of the season after a 6-3, 7-5 win agaisnt Lily Rubenstein. Lynae Gruber (Shenandoah, Iowa) cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
In doubles competition, Simpson came out on top of cruicial, one-point wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The team of Berner and Tiffany Bost (Spokane, Wash.) defeated Taylor Jones and Emma Beck, 9-8 at the first spot while Gruber and Lindsay Nash (Keokuk, Iowa) knocked off Rubenstein and Laura Grogan by the same score at the third spot.
Against Grinnell, Simpson couldn't manage a victory. Nash and Gruber took their matches to three sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Storm return to action Wednesday when they travel to Lamoni to face Graceland at 3:30 p.m.
