Storm end regular season on high note
INDIANOLA - Simpson swept the doubles competition and took four of six matches in singles, closing the regular season with a 7-2 win against Graceland on Tuesday at Buxton Memorial Tennis Complex.
The Storm (7-7, 4-5 IIAC) completed regular seaosn play at the .500 mark for the first time since going 6-5 in 2006. The Storm will enter this weekend's Iowa Conference Team Tournament with the No. 6 seed and will face the No. 3 seed, Wartburg.
Simpson started the match off on the right foot, sweeping the Yellow Jackets in doubles. Tiffany Bost (Spokane, Wash.) and Lindsay Nash (Keokuk, Iowa) defeated Michelle McCabe and Orsi Magyar, 8-6, Mikayla Struebing (Indianola, Iowa) and Allison Anderson (Eldridge, Iowa) earned an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Lynae Gruber (Shenandoah, Iowa) and Maggie McDevitt (Sioux City, Iowa) blanked their opponent at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Struebing picked up 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Nash, Gruber and McDevitt all took victories at No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Gruber's match went to a tiebreaker, where she eventually prevailed 6-7, 6-4, 10-2 over Brittney Simmons.
