Patterson named A-R-C Athlete of the Week after record-setting performance
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After his historic performance in the heptathlon at the A-R-C Indoor Championships over the weekend, Ulysses Patterson was named the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Year on Monday.
Patterson finished the heptathlon with 5,021 points, which not only shattered his own school record, but also the conference championship meet record. The previous meet record was set last year by Gavin Smith of Central with 4,828 points. Patterson was also named the A-R-C Field Athlete of the Week at the meet.
The meet began for Patterson with a sixth place finish in the 60m dash before rattling off three straight first place marks in the long jump, shot put and high jump. After a ninth place finish in the 60m hurdles, Patterson concluded the day with a second place mark in the pole vault and his fourth first place mark in the 1000m race.
Patterson will now compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships which is set for Friday, March 14 - Saturday, March 15 in Rochester, N. Y.
