Simpson to take part in Coaches vs. Cancer
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson men's basketball team will take part in the national Coaches vs. Cancer initiative when it faces Wartburg Saturday, Feb. 6 at Cowles Fieldhouse.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
The coaching staffs for each team will wear white sneakers at the game as a way to remind audiences about the ways people can reduce their risk of cancer through excercise, healthy diet, making healthy lifestyle choices and following cancer screening guides.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a basketball autographed by the 2009-10 Simpson Storm. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
