Storm's balanced attack sinks Coe
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Andrew Dau led four players in double-figures with 17 points as Simpson tallied an 86-68 win against Coe Saturday evening at Cowles Fieldhouse.
The Storm (4-11, 1-5 IIAC) connected on a season-high 12 three-point attempts in the game, the team's first Iowa Conference win of the season.
Dau, Zack Barragan and Dave Fouch did a majority of the work from beyond the arch as each canned three three-pointers. Matt Fouch hit a pair of threes and finished with 16 points and five assists. Dave Fouch and Barragan each totaled 11 points on the night, while Tim Dunlavy came a point shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
David Mataloni led the charge with 12 points for the Kohakws (3-13, 1-6 IIAC), including shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Jordan Cunningham and Kevin Gaster each added 10 points to the cause.
After closing the first half on an 8-1 run to take a 37-35 lead at the break, Simpson picked up where it left off with a 19-8 run in the first 6:38 of the second stanza.
The Storm's advantage grew to 15 when Taylor Nederhoff nailed a jumper with 9:41 to go, making the score 65-50. After a short burst from the Kohawks trimmed their deficit to nine, Simpson answered and built its lead back to 15 on a layup from Dau with 6:07 remaining.
Coe answered with a 7-1 run, again pulling to within nine with 4:37 to go. But Simpson elminated any comeback hopes by finishing the game in style with a 14-5 run over the final 3:37.
Simpson returns to action Monday when it travels to Decorah to take on Luther (7-6, 1-4 IIAC) as part of a doubleheader begining at 6 p.m. with the women's game.
