Simpson enjoys offensive outburst in win at Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Andrew Dau posted a career-high for the second-consecutive game and the Storm notched its first 100-point game in two years as Simpson routed Crown, 100-69 Friday night.
Dau led four scorers in double digits with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting. As a team, the Storm (2-7, 0-2 IIAC) shot a season-high 52.9 percent from the field.
The 100-point outburst marks the most points scored by the Storm since tallying 114 against Grinnell on Nov. 25, 2007.
Simpson's reserves shined in the win, as the Storm held a 42-13 edge in bench scoring. Freshman John Cord had the best night of his young career, coming off the bench to score 10 points and grab a game-high eight rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
Holding a slim 8-5 lead nearly five minutes into the contest, Simpson mounted a 17-0 run over a six-minute span in opening a 20-point advantage. Maurice Lloyd knocked down a three to narrow the deficit to three for Crown (2-8, 2-0 UMAC) before Zack Barragan answered with his third trey of the game, bringing the lead back to 20.
From there, the Storm never led by less than 20 throughout the remainder of the evening. Simpson took a 54-23 lead into the locker room at halftime after shooting 60 percent from the field and hitting 5-of-6 threes in the first 20 minutes. Barragan - who finished with 13 - went 3-for-4 from distance in the first half.
Mike Landers led Crown with 15 points, followed by Jake Jarvis with 13.
Simpson's next game is a road contest at Nebraska Wesleyan Dec. 19 in Lincoln. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
