Women’s track and field team earns all-academic status

NEW ORLEANS – The Simpson women's track and field team earned Division III All-Academic Track & Field Team honors for the 2011 season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

With a team grade-point average of 3.44, head coach Dave Cleveland's team was one of 111 teams nationally to meet the required 3.10 cumulative GPA. Simpson ranked second of the schools in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) which made the list, behind only Luther. Central, Cornell, Loras and Wartburg also earned the distinction.

UW-Oshkosh earned Scholar Team of the Year honors in Division III for both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a result of being the highest-placing team with at least a 3.10-cumulative GPA at the most recent indoor and outdoor championship, respectively.

Simpson placed 10 student-athletes on the IIAC All-Academic Team, including Jayde Boyle (So., Holstein, Iowa), Chelsey Degen (Sr., Algona, Iowa), Erin Guzman (Jr., Traer, Iowa), Meagan Kirts (So., Ramstein, Germany), Jordan Maher (So., Baxter, Iowa), Signe Mayland (Jr., Buffalo Center, Iowa), Maddy McAreavy (So., Galva, Iowa), Nicole Mulder (Jr., Boyden, Iowa), Rachel Smith (Jr., Marion, Iowa) and Molly Sabers (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa).
