Ellingson named IIAC Track Performer of the Week
INDIANOLA - Simpson middle-distance runner Catie Ellingson earned Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week honors after an MVP performance last weekend at the IIAC Championships.
Ellingson, a senior from Indianola, Iowa, was named Most Valuable Track Performer at the 2011 Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. For the second year in a row she won both the 800 (2:18.32) and the mile (4:57.97), winning the mile for the third time in four years. She also anchored the 4x400-meter relay to a fourth-place finish (4:13.98).
A sports administration major, Ellingson set a school record in the mile, easily passing her own mark of 4:59.17 set in 2010. Her time provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships and ranks No. 8 in the nation.
She closed her Iowa Conference indoor career as a six-time all-conference performer, taking medalist honors all six times.
Ellingson and the Storm will have one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships this weekend at the Iowa State Last Chance Meet in Ames on Saturday, March 5.
