Storm women ranked 11th in NCAA, 4th in Region
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson women's track and field team equaled its highest national ranking of the year, jumping 11 spots to No. 11 in the latest Division III National Team Rankings as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Simpson also jumped a spot in the Midwest Regional rankings, passing conference-foe Central to No. 4. The No. 1 team in the nation, Wartburg holds the top spot in the region, followed by Gustavus Adolphus, St. Thomas (Minn.) and Simpson. Central is fifth, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan, Loras, Luther, Concordia Moorhead and St. Benedict.
Simpson took second place at the Iowa Conference Championships, trailing only reining national champion Wartburg. To date, the Storm have provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in nine events and automatically qualified in two. Simpson athletes have one last chance to qualify for nationals, as the team travels to the North Central Last Chance Meet in Naperville, Ill. on May 21-22.
