INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's soccer team battled wire-to-wire with No. 5/16 Loras but came up short, falling 1-0 in a clash between the top two teams in the American Rivers Conference.
Isabel Russmann netted the decisive goal 17 minutes into the match, catching the Storm defense out of position with a powerful shot from 20 yards out.
The Storm, who outshot the Duhawks 8-1 in the second half, came agonizingly close to equalizing in the dying seconds of the game as Avery Plathe's last chance shot from 30 yards away skimmed just inches past the top corner of the goal. Cassie Nash also had a number of close opportunities in the half but was denied on all three attempts.
NOTES
- The loss snaps Simpson's 17-game win streak at home and is the Storm's first regular season blemish in over a year.
