Taylor earns second weekly A-R-C honor of season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- For the second time this season, graduate student Jenna Taylor has been named American Rivers Conference Female Athlete of the Week as well as Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

This is the eighth time in her career that Taylor has earned player of the week honors and second time being named Female Athlete of the Week.

The Creston, Iowa native averaged 15.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game over the course of this past week as the No. 6 Simpson College women's basketball team improved to 4-1 this season. She shot 52.9 percent from the floor, 43.8 percent from three-point land and made all of her attempts at the charity stripe.

In the Storm's 85-79 win over Loras in the conference opener, Taylor shot 66.7 percent from the field for eight points and had eight rebounds, a block and a steal. She followed that performance with 37 points and 18 rebounds at the Gundersen Hotel & Suites Classic to be named to the All-Tournament Team. Taylor exploded for 27 points with five triples in Simpson's narrow loss to Wis.-Eau Claire and had 10 points in the team's 70-56 victory over Wis.-La Crosse.

Taylor now ranks eighth on Simpson's all-time scoring leaderboard with 1,256 career points, just two points behind Kate Nielsen who logged 1,258 points between 2010-13. Her 574 career rebounds rank ninth in program history.

Nine student-athletes have earned A-R-C Player of the Week honors for Simpson this year. Taylor joins Madeline Streicher (women's golf) as the only student-athletes to record multiple weekly awards, while Abby Cozzoni (women's soccer), Maddie Hays (women's soccer), Alan Imamovic (men's soccer), Hailey Kowzan (women's soccer), Spencer Moon (men's cross country), Cassie Nash (women's soccer) and Jordy Triana-Vasquez (men's soccer) each earned the player of the week title once during their seasons.

The Storm return to action tomorrow at Wisconsin-Superior and will continue their conference slate on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids to face Coe.

Simpson athletes visit Lasik Iowa and Lasik Omaha doctors for annual checkups.
