Moon, Cleveland named Academic All-Americans
AUSTIN, Texas – Spencer Moon and Max Cleveland have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America teams for track and field and cross country.
Moon, now a two-time Academic All-American, secured a spot on the first team, while Cleveland was selected to the second team. The pair join Chris Willeman (1996) and Marek Wensel (1992) as recipients from Simpson men's cross country and track and field. They are the first duo from Simpson to be named Academic All-Americans in the same season since men's soccer's Nick Joslyn and Garrett Pochop in 2017.
Spencer Moon, first team
- Senior from Lake City, Iowa
- Majors: Business Analytics and Data
- Earns his second straight Academic All-American honor
- Qualified for his third straight NCAA Cross Country Championships
- Became the first cross country runner at Simpson to earn all-region accolades four times
- Finished second at the A-R-C Cross Country Championships, the program's best individual finish since 1989, to become the second athlete in school history to claim four all-conference awards
- Won a national championship in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
- Added a second First Team All-American honor in the indoor 5000 meters, as well as a pair of Second Team All-American trophies in the indoor 3000 meters and outdoor 5000 meters
- Earned four all-region honors and was named the Midwest Regional Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons
- Voted A-R-C Indoor Track MVP after sweeping the 3000- and 5000-meter runs
- Claimed victory in the outdoor 10,000 meters at the A-R-C Outdoor Championships
Max Cleveland, second team
- Senior from Indianola, Iowa
- Majors: Human Services, Psychology, Religion
- Earns his first Academic All-American honor
- Took home Second Team All-American honors in the indoor 60 meter hurdles and outdoor 110 meter hurdles
- Became the first athlete in school history to break eight seconds in the 60 meter hurdles with a 7.95 at the David Hemery Invitational, tied for the 12th-fastest time in DIII history
- Garnered all-region accolades in the 60 meter hurdles and 110 meter hurdles
- Collected three total all-conference honors on the year, highlighted with a silver medal in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.05
