Rollison reaches NCAA Finals as Simpson wraps season
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Six members of the Simpson College men's gymnastics team wrapped up their seasons on the national stage this weekend at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Leading the way was sophomore Brian Rollison, who made program history by becoming the first Storm gymnast to qualify for the NCAA Finals. Rollison secured his finals berth with a standout 13.533 on rings during the opening round. He followed it up with a 13.066 in the championship round to finish 30th in the nation.
Rollison also posted a new career high on parallel bars Friday night and tallied a 73.198 in the all-around, his third-highest mark of the season.
Fellow all-around competitor Jake Smith closed out his campaign with a 71.730, highlighted by a strong 13.566 on vault. That score was narrowly edged by teammate Braxton Jones, who notched a 13.700 on the same apparatus.
Alex Catchpole recorded a 12.966 both on pommel horse and parallel bars, Alex Campbell garnered a 12.633 on rings, and Paul Tiedemann received an 11.200 on high bar.
