Simpson ties for 16th at Buena Vista Invite

STORM LAKE, Iowa - Jon Richter (Marshalltown, Iowa/GMG) led the Simpson men's golf team with a 13-over 157 as Simpson tied for 16th at the Buena Vista Spring Invitational at Lake Creek Country Club Saturday.

The Storm tied Dordt with a two-round score of 643. Central and Kirkwood tied for first, with each shooting a 611.

Richter shot Simpson's low round of the tournament on day two, a 2-over 74 after shooting an 83 in the first round. He finished tied for 32nd.

Matt Spaulding (Fonda, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) led Simpson with an 80 in the first round, finishing with a 159 after carding a 79 in the second round. He tied for 47th.

Nick Tanner (Sheldon, Iowa/Sheldon) tied for 61st with a 161 (82, 79), James Montgomery (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville) tied for 81st with a 166 (84, 82) and Michael Peterson (Emmetsburg, Iowa/Emmetsburg) tied for 92nd with a 169 (84, 85). Competing as an individual, Grant Northway (Altoona, Iowa/Grandview Park Baptist) tied for 61st along with Tanner (82, 79).

With the regular season now at a close, Simpson will take part in the first two rounds of the Iowa Conference Championship this weekend, April 23-24 at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Friday's round will begin at 11 a.m. with the final round getting underway at 9 a.m.
