Storm place 15th at Dan Huston Invitational
WAVERLY - Catie Ellingson ran to a 10th-place finish and Simpson took 15th of 23 teams at Saturday's Dan Huston Invitational, hosted by Wartburg.
The Storm got a chance to run on the same course that will host the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 13 and the national meet the next week. The host Knights, ranked No. 24 in the nation, won the meet with 65 points. No. 12 St. Olaf took second, followed by North Central. Conference foes Loras and Cornell placed eighth and 12th, respectively.
Ellingson (Indianola, Iowa) completed the 6km course in 23:06, marking the first time this season she hasn't finished in the top three.
Jade Osborne (Goodyear, Ariz.) finished 63rd (24:52), Annie Hills (Swisher, Iowa) came in 113th (25:41) and Courtney Licht (Dallas Center, Iowa) placed 136th (26:11). Ashley Drogo (Red Oak, Iowa) came in 156th (26:41), Jayde Boyle (Holstein, Iowa) placed 169th (26:52) and Erin Guzman (Traer, Iowa) rounded out the varsity finishers in 193rd (27:16).
Next week, Simpson travels to West Salem, Wis. for the Drews/Neubauer Invitational, hosted by UW-LaCrosse.
